I moved from Paris to LA a few years ago. Two habits stuck with me: walking and smoking. Walking around the city made me realize the staggering number of people living on the streets ; and my second habit allowed me, most of the time, to start a conversation. I was struck by everyone’s beauty and style and I started shooting around, from West Hollywood, to Hollywood, to DTLA, not knowing where this was going to take me. And it is on Skid Row, where I am currently working on a documentary, that I’ve surprisingly found the most creative people and outfits. Every day, in the streets, I witness fashion -  a kind that would make designers turn green with envy. Every person I’ve talked to has this attitude, this swag, this je ne sais quoi that I’ve decided to pay tribute to with this street fashion photo project. Not everyone I have met on Skid Row is homeless. Some people  live on the streets or in shelters, some in SRO housing. Some are residents and/or activists. Some just pass by, some hang out there. Indeed, Skid Row is not just the homeless capital of the United States, a sanctuary for drug addicts and mental ills. It’s a community, empowering, proud, vibrant, a family that I fell in love with.I wanted to shoot film because, like with any of these encounters, you never know what you’re gonna get. I’m using a 35 mm point & shoot Canon One Touch camera and more recently a Nikon FM2.
